I am frustrated but sadly not surprised that more confidential papers have been mislaid (Second discovery in two weeks of patient records, Gazette, July 16).

With identity theft ever on the increase, and the recent high profile data discs going missing, you would think that people with access to personal information would be extra vigilant with regards to its safekeeping.

For a confidential Hillingdon Hospital patient report to be found lying in the street is nothing short of criminal.

Perhaps that is the answer though; anybody who loses confidential data should be taken to court and face a heavy fine or jail time.

It may seem heavy handed but perhaps it is the only way to force the clowns who show disregard for private details of others to look after them properly.

How many other missing reports and information has been lost that we don't know about?

I suspect there are countless pieces of information which have been lost, and many will have fallen into the wrong hands.

I am genuinely scared that somebody might have my information and is out there posing as me, so I check my bank for any unauthorised transactions every day.

But I can do absolutely nothing but cross my fingers and hope, because I have absolutely no faith that those in positions of power care about the everyday person.
