A 'DANGEROUS' criminal who crashed his car trying to escape arrest has been jailed after he admitted owning a host of dangerous weapons.

John Ryan, 45, of Hudson Close, White City Estate, Shepherd's Bush, was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison at Kingston Crown Court on December 17.

Ryan had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession of a firearm, a silencer and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

He also admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance at a previous hearing in November.

Ryan was arrested on December 11, 2009, after a joint operation by Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Directorate and supported by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Officers executed a warrant on his home and found cannabis and cocaine with a street value of £187,000 along with a police baton, a knuckle duster, three samurai swords and a quantity of cash.

A further search warrant at a storage unit in Station Road, Brentford, rented by Ryan, saw a shoulder holster for gun, a firearm silencer, a self-loading pistol and magazine, a camouflage pouch and 22 rounds of ammunition found.

He was tracked down by police as he drove along Uxbridge Road, in Ealing, and tried to out-run police before he crashed his car and was arrested.

Detective Inspector Sarah Staff, of the Serious and Organised Crime Squad, said: "John Ryan is a dangerous individual who had access to a number of weapons which could have been used either by himself, or a third party, to cause serious harm or death.

"The overwhelming evidence collected by all the officers on this case resulted in Ryan pleading guilty to all offences and receiving a substantial prison sentence."
