A FATHER inspired by the bravery of his diabetic daughter is taking part in a 10km run and hosting a comedy night to raise money for a diabetes charity.

Andrew Evzona will be fundraising for the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation because his nine-year-old daughter, Alexandra, has been coping with type one diabetes since she was just two.

The doting dad is set to run the Bupa London 10,000 race through central London on May 30 and will be doing a stand-up set on June 17 with all proceeds going to the children's charity.

The businessman, of Mornington Road, Greenford, said: "She has to have three insulin injections a day and countless blood sugar tests. It's very stressful on the family. My wife hasn't slept once through the night in the last seven years. We all live around the clock.

"Alexandra is very brave. I don't want her to spend the rest of her life going through this. My mum had it at my age and I used to inject her myself, but to get it at just two years old is hard."

Mr Evzona has raised £8,000 for various charities over the years including Child Line and Mencap. This will be his first show in Greenford, with other comedy and magic acts, but he is not new to the stage.

He said: "I used to do stand-up some time ago when I used to work for British Airways and I did a set at my friend's wedding in March.

"I've always wanted to my own night so I thought why not do something local in my area and combine the two to raise money for the charity.

"I'll be doing jokes and stories and a trip down memory lane reminiscing about Greenford. I grew up here and a lot has changed over the years."

The show starts at 7.30pm at the Bridge Hotel, in Greenford Road, Greenford.
