A cyclist has told of the moment he was run down by a moped rider on the Hammersmith gyratory - one of four road smashes in two days in the area.

Alex Ingram, 29, from Hammersmith Grove, was heading onto the southern end of Fulham Palace Road when he was shunted by the moped and propelled into the middle of the road face-first into the path of oncoming traffic.

He suffered head and wrist injuries and was taken to hospital where, still in shock, he posted pictures of his wounds online and used Twitter to express his anger at the rider, who has yet to be caught.

The crash followed on from smashes in Brook Green and Uxbridge Road and then, on Wednesday, outside the W12 Shopping Centre in Shepherd's Bush.

Now recovering at home, Mr Ingram, who works for Waterstone's, contacted the Chronicle to talk about what happened. "The traffic lights had just gone green. I was behind a couple of cars and remember setting off but the next thing I knew was that I was in the middle of the road not knowing how I had got there.

"I was initially in shock, but then the pain kicked in and that turned to anger."

A lifelong cyclist, this wasn't the first time Mr Ingram has been run over, but he is adamant his bad luck isn't going to stop him pursuing the hobby he loves.

"If people are going to be idiots they are going to be idiots, whether that's on the road or anywhere else. People are always going to speed - you've just got to have your wits about you.

"That gyratory system isn't too bad, although the section where I got hit is probably the worst. I won't stop cycling there but I do think London needs to aspire to the more cycle-friendly European cities."

24 hours after Mr Ingram was hit, a woman pedestrian in her thirties was involved with a scrape with a van outside the W12 Shopping Centre at about 9,25am on Wednesday. She was taken to Charing Cross Hospital with minor injuries..

On Tuesday, at about 7pm, there was a crash involving a car and a van at the junction of Askew Road and Uxbridge Road. One man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Two days of carnage began in Brook Green on Monday morning when there was a three-car pile-up which resulted in a woman having to be cut free from a mangled Mercedes. She too was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A man was arrested and bailed on suspicion of drink-driving.
