THE set of a new hairdressing sitcom was so realistic, producers had to turn away people looking for a cut and blow-dry.

Catherine Bailey, producer of Quick Cuts, filmed in South Ruislip and to be shown on BBC4 later this year said: “People would walk in and ask for a haircut. We kept having to say: ‘We’re filming’.

“Clearly there is a calling in South Ruislip for a new salon.”

Doon Mackichan, famous for starring in comedies Smack the Pony and Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge, fronts the sitcom-cum-sketch show filmed in February in Victoria Road, South Ruislip.

Filming also took place in Supertan Studio in Station Approach and The Middlesex Arms in Long Drive.

Ms Bailey said: “It was a really good location for us. We used quite a lot of places in the area so we were lucky.”

Quick Cuts follows Sue, the owner of the salon, played by Mackichan. “No one else but Sue would put up with employees who are so bad, screwed up, unreliable or dishonest,” Ms Bailey said.

The show is expected to be on our screens in the autumn.
