A POST Office which closed for more than a week without any real notice being given has baffled its customers.

The Post Office in High Street, Ruislip, closed on September 2 and only reopened yesterday (September 14).

A Post Office Ltd spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the Post Office was closed following an audit.

"We apologise to customers for the short closure of the branch last week."

Speaking last Wednesday Susan Browne, who uses the branch, said: "I past today and noticed the lovely tidy sign with the telephone number disappearing off the side of the paper and also the terrible state of the outside of the building.

"I think the most immediate concern is the lack of notice, and vagueness about what is happening.

"The staff in the shop have nothing to do with the Post Office and the signs that have been put up are scrappy and unprofessional.

"There were about five people standing outside. They were making comments about how wrong it was to privatise the Post Office and there was concern about the elderly residents who just about manage to walk to the Post Office.

"Many do not have transport to get to other Post Offices at Ruislip Gardens, Ruislip Manor, Eastcote or Ickenham, and it's far too far for many residents to walk to these alternative locations.

"I did actually want to post a parcel today, but I will go to the Mail Box instead in Ruislip High Street where I feel I can talk to staff who know what they are talking about."

Councillor Douglas Mills, cabinet member for partnership at Hillingdon Council, said: "I instructed council staff to contact Post Office Ltd to raise concerns about the sudden closure of the Post Office and asked for assurances that it would reopen as soon as possible."
