Two burglaries took place on the same day in which a doorstep conman distracted his victims while an accomplice rifled around upstairs.

Harrow Police are appealing for witnesses after linking the two offences because they believe it was the same two suspects using the same method of entry.

The first burglary took place at 2.50pm on Monday October 27 when a suspect knocked on the door of the victim's house in Welldon Crescent, Harrow, claiming to be a workman from 'the water board' and needing to check the property's taps for water leaks.

He was let in but purposely left the front door ajar and entered the kitchen with the occupier where he took a look at the pipework under the sink in the kitchen.

The suspect then wanted access into the ground floor bedroom and was refused by the occupant.

When the occupant threatened to call police, the suspect shouted out to an accomplice who had slipped in and was upstairs. They fled empty-handed.

The suspect workman is described as a white man aged between 30 and 40 who is 6ft tall with short dark brown hair. He was wearing blue trousers and a blue shirt.

The second burglary took place at 4pm and began when a suspect knocked on the door of the victim's house in Imperial Road, Harrow, claiming to be a workman.

The suspect said that he was checking people’s taps for flooding and wanted to check the taps of the victim’s home.

He was allowed in and another person crept into the property and went upstairs.

It was later discovered the lock to a bedroom was forced and in another room the contents of a cupboard were emptied onto the bed although nothing is believed to have been taken.

The suspect workman is described as a white man aged between 25 and 35, 6ft tall wearing short dark brown hair.
