BOSSES at London Irish Rugby Club are refusing to reveal what will become of the team's Sunbury base after admitting it is to be sold.

And their reluctance to discuss the details has prompted fears that the 11-acre green site is to be sold to housing developers.

The future of the base in The Avenue, the club's home since 1931, has been discussed confidentially over the past few weeks with Spelthorne Council, but a club spokesman said plans would remain out of the public eye for the time being.

However he did confirm the sale to the Herald, saying: "It will be up for sale in the foreseeable future."

The secrecy has angered residents and councillors, who now fear a sale to housing developers is imminent.
