SIX people escaped from a bungalow blaze in Cowley after they were alerted by their fire alarm.

One man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation but the other Old Mill Lane residents were unharmed.

Fire crews from Heathrow, Hillingdon and Hayes fire stations were at the scene shortly after 4am on Friday morning, and the blaze was under control by 5.20am.

Watch Manager Gary Saunders from Hillingdon Fire Station said: "Our crews did an amazing job and were working very hard to get this fire under control.

"The bungalow had several smoke alarms which alerted the residents to escape and everyone got out in time.

"There was one man who was suffering from smoke inhalation and we provided first aid and gave him oxygen.

"This incident could have ended tragically but the smoke alarms went off and everyone got out. This is why I am urging everyone to have a smoke alarm and test it regularly it can really save your live."

The bungalow is a chalet style and had a first floor, where the fire caused most damage.
