THE chief executive of Hillingdon Council has announced he is standing down from his role.

Hugh Dunnachie, who joined the council in 2003 as director of social services and housing, has been in the senior post since 2006. No leaving date has yet been set and no replacement has been named.

Mr Dunnachie said he is very proud of his time in charge.

“In the past six years as chief executive, we have achieved a huge amount, improving services for our residents and delivering value for money,” he said.

“Even though every council is facing some very difficult challenges, in Hillingdon we have maintained our strong focus on residents and delivering services that matter to them.

“I am immensely proud of the staff who work tirelessly, day in, day out, across a wide range of services for the benefit of the borough’s residents.”

Tributes to Mr Dunnachie were led by council leader Ray Puddifoot.

“I would personally and on behalf of all our residents we represent, like to thank Hugh for his work as chief executive.

“Hugh has helped us by transforming the council into a more efficient organisation, providing better services and facilities for our residents.

“He has ensured that the council has delivered our priorities and put our residents first in everything we do.”

Mr Dunnachie has previously worked for councils in Richmond, Windsor and Maidenhead, and Luton.
