MAY I correct a misleading impression made by Councillor Mark Bowen in his recent letter in the Chronicle regarding MPs Alan and Anne Keen and the second homes allowance.

He said in his letter - and l quote - 'there is no need for a second property for me'.

Councillor Bowen, as a Tory Parliamentary candidate, you know as well as I do that the second homes allowance for outer London MPs will end in April 2010.

Secondly, Tory leader David Cameron has already stopped his outer London MPs from claiming the second homes allowance

because of abuses in his own party by, for example, his shadow transport minister, Theresa Villiers. Please don't take the voters as fools Councillor Bowen.

Also, regarding Hounslow Council threatening to take over the Keens' house in Brentford, l regard that as the lowest form of political opportunism by a Tory-led council that has to rely on minority parties to stay in power. Perhaps the council, or Councllor Bowen, would like to use these columns to tell us how many other empty properties they have taken over in the borough and installed their own tenants.
