BOOKMAKERS William Hill want to open up a third branch in Hayes Town Centre, just months after unveiling a new one around the corner.

William Hill have applied for a gambling licence for 2 Botwell Lane, previously home to recruitment firm HR GO which closed in March.

They already have two betting shops in the town - in Station Road and in Coldharbour Lane. The latter opened in the summer after William Hill was granted a premises licence in April, despite more than 700 people signing petitions against them moving in.

There are five other betting shops on the high street. Ladbrokes has three branches, and Jenningsbet and Paddy Power also have prime spots in the town.

Councillor Lynne Allen (Lab, Townfield), said: "How many betting shops do we need in Hayes Town? There is one right across the road.

"My concern is that there is a church and a school very close by, and there can be anti-social behaviour issues with these places."

People had until last Wednesday (23) to make representations on the application, and it will now be considered by the borough's licensing department.
