Harrow Council has been forced to apologise for its slackness in cutting the borough's grass verges.

The Harrow Observer has received several complaints from residents and community groups about patches of turf being cut only once this year when they should have already been trimmed at least three times.

Councillor Susan Hall (Conservative), deputy council leader and portfolio holder for environment services, said: "Harrow Council has experienced difficulties cutting the borough's grass verges due to unfavourable weather conditions and faulty equipment.

"We have repaired our equipment and invested in this service with two new mowers arriving last week.

"We are confident this service will be back to normal by the end of June or the beginning of July and would like to apologise to residents for any inconvenience caused.

"The council would like to assure the public of its continued commitment to improving the public realm."
