I AM not an economic expert - in fact I am more of a financial fool.

However, when I was looking for good interest rates for my meagre savings, I noticed the high rates of interest on offer from the Icelandic banks.

Using what little brain I had at my disposal, I decided that there must be an element of risk in these banks, simply because of the fact that Iceland is a long way from Britain, which meant that you could not just go down to the High Street and demand your money back.

Now, if I felt there was a risk with my own money - which was the reason that I did not invest with them - I would also have felt uneasy investing council money with them, if I had been an employee of the council (Bid to recover lost £20m, Gazette, March 10).

So the real question is: how many council employees who invested council funds in these banks also invested their own money in them?
