‘GRIT our pavements’ was the key message from more than 60 pensioners at this month’s Older Person’s Assembly.
The attendees were given a talk by James Birch, Hillingdon Council’s service manager for streets.
He told them that by the second week of December last year, the borough’s gritters had been out more than 40 times. This year by the same time they had been required only three times.
Guests commended the council’s approach to roads but criticised the fact pavements were left untreated.
Former independent councillor for Northwood Hills, David Bishop, suggested the council convert its motorised street sweepers into snowploughs.
Mr Birch said: “That is not something we have available at present, but I can look at the suggestion.”
