I WRITE in response to the letter from ex-councillor Mike Cox in last week's Gazette about the council's residents' magazine, Hillingdon People.

Our residents have consistently told us that Hillingdon People is their preferred choice for getting information about the council and other local services.

We have extremely high numbers of residents who feel well informed and at around 5p a copy per resident, this represents extraordinary value for money (even the Gazette costs 65p a week).

Like all councils, we will have less money from central government but in Hillingdon, we have a strong track record of delivering savings while at the same time investing in the things that matter most to our residents.

In the last year, we have invested more than £46million in new leisure facilities in Uxbridge and Hayes that provide all of our residents with some of the best sporting facilities in west London.

We managed all of this and still kept our promise to residents to freeze council tax and maintain investment in front-line services.

Our commitment to putting residents first was positively endorsed by the electorate in May; our residents should rest assured that we will not rest in our desire to continually improve and enhance the services that they tell us are important.
