AS SNOW continues to fall across Britain, staff at Ealing Council remain on standby to lay down more grit.
The borough is in the grip of one of the worst cold snaps in recent memory as temperatures regularly plunge below freezing.
The council has already bolstered its grit supply and began covering road surfaces and pavements last week.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and
Environment, said: “The council's 11 gritters have spread grit on the main roads and are now on standby should more snow fall. Priority will be given to the borough’s major road network and town centres.
“If more snow falls the council has plans in place to ensure that its gritters will work around the clock to keep the borough moving.
“So far there have been no disruptions to services.”
