THE public could benefit from two new express bus routes in the borough, improving transport links from north to south.
Hillingdon Council are pressing the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson for funding, and lobbied at a meeting of outer London boroughs.
It has been a long running issue in Hillingdon that while east to west transport links are readily accessible, travelling from north to south by public transport can be far more complicated.
Councillor Douglas Mills, cabinet member for improvements, said: "It is important for all our residents and for businesses that we improve transport links from areas such as South Ruislip, Northwood Hills and Harefield, to destinations in the south of the borough such as Hayes, West Drayton and Heathrow."
The proposed express buses, would only stop at certain stops on their route, ensuring a quick journey time between destinations.
"For a very modest investment, the Mayor can help to make a massive impact on the local economy, road congestion, and the environment."
When Boris Johnson was voted in as Mayor, he created the outer London Commission, to hear about local issues outside of central London, and Hillingdon made their representations as part of the West London Alliance, made up on councils across West London.
Councillor Mills added: "We weren't the only ones pressing for transport improvements, for example, Ealing wish to improve links to Harrow, but what we were all in agreement on was that there needs to be better travel within boroughs north to south.
"There are funding issues with the Olympics and Crossrail, but what we are asking for in comparison would only cost a small amount.
"That is the dice we've thrown onto the table and we hope someone will play with it."
Being proposed are two routes, the first would travel from South Ruislip to Stockley Park, calling at Ruislip, West Ruislip, Ickenham, Uxbridge, Brunel University, Hillingdon Hospital, Yiewsley and West Drayton.
The second route would run from Northwood Hills to Heathrow, calling at Northwood, Mount Vernon Hospital, Harefield, Uxbridge, Hayes, and Harlington.
