BUDGET chain Poundland will compete for a slice of the discount shopping market in Fulham after opening a shop in North End Road.

The store is due to open on Friday just days after a branch of coffee shop Costa shut down on the road.

Poundland will be trading just yards from its biggest rival, Poundworld, which opened in May last year. Poundland, which also has stores in Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush is opening its doors on a redeveloped site next to McDonald's.

Costa did not respond with reasons for the closure of its Fulham branch before the Chronicle went to press.
