AN ALLEGED rapist of Greek Cypriot descent who failed to turn up for his trial at Harrow Crown Court is being sought by police.
Kostas Sampson, 20, of Oakwood Park Road, Oakwood, north London, was on bail to attend the court, in Hailsham Drive, Harrow, on Monday February 21 but was reported missing by his family at 1am the same day.
Barnet officers hunted for Sampson, whose first name is also spelt as Costas, in his local area but it soon became clear he had absconded to avoid the trial. At 2pm that day a crown court judge issued a warrant for his arrest.
Both he and co-defendant Charalambos Pittordis, 21, of Trafalgar Avenue, Tottenham, north London, face one charge of raping a woman in Ruislip at a private address on February 14 2010, three of sexual assaulting a woman in Ruislip, two of theft and one of voyeurism.
Their joint trial was adjourned by the judge until Monday April 4 pending police enquiries.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Sapphire team are appealing to anyone that knows the whereabouts of Sampson to call the incident room on 0208 721 9100 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
