A WATERSIDE Brentford estate currently under construction has scooped an award which recognises the best examples of architecture, planning and development.

Brentford Lock West, is gradually taking shape beside the banks of the Grand Union Canal, in Commerce Road, and last week was named winner of the residential category at the New London Awards.

The development is happening under the control of ISIS Waterside Regeneration, and was commended for its overall master plan and the development’s commitment to providing community space and encouraging outdoor living.

Architects Duggan Morris, Karakusevic Carson and Riches Hawley Mikhail are the brains behind the design for the mix of 150, one, two, three and four bedroom apartments and townhouses. The initial phase will also include commercial units which will open inside several of the art deco buildings already retained on site. Other planned elements include rooftop gardens and allotment spaces, while thanks to a partnership with the Canal and Rivers Trust improvements are being planned to moorings along the canal as well as ways to boost recreational use of the waterway.

Katie Sully from ISIS Waterside Regeneration, said: "Having only launched the first release of homes at Brentford Lock West earlier this year, we were delighted that the development not only got shortlisted but was selected as the winner of this award. It has been very important to us from the outset that we deliver a scheme that really embraces its waterside location, while also remaining sympathetic to the area’s industrial heritage.

"It’s a great honour to pick up this award with our architect team – and we hope there will be many more to come as we develop this project over the next five years."

Brendon Walsh, Director of Regeneration, Economic Development and Environment, Hounslow Council said: “We are delighted to see this scheme winning awards and it’s helping to put Brentford firmly on the map as a great place to live."
