TWO books of condolence for people to record messages of sympathy to mark the recent death of Polish president Lech Kaczynski and other key dignitaries have gone on display.

The books are open to all who wish to sign them, at Willesden Green Library Centre and Brent Town Hall reception area until Saturday. They will then be sent to the Polish Embassy.

The Mayor of Brent , Councillor Jim O'Sullivan, was the first to sign. He wrote: "My thoughts are with the entire Polish nation on the passing of President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, Maria Kaczynska, along with so many senior and deeply respected Polish figures who have devoted their professional lives to their country.

"I know that this tragedy will be felt deeply by the members of Brent's Polish community and I extend my deepest sympathies to them all as they grieve."

The leader of Brent Council, Paul Lorber, has written to the Polish Embassy expressing condolences on behalf of the people of Brent.

* Willesden Green Library is open from 10am to 8pm on Mondays, 9am to 8pm Tuesday to Thursday, 9am to 6pm on Fridays, 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and noon to 5pm on Sundays. Brent Town Hall reception is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.
