A MURDERED Fulham reggae singer's life was celebrated by friends and family at the place his body was found.

Father-of-one Ian Newtion, 45, of Douglas Johnston House, Clem Attlee Court, off Lillie

Road, Fulham, was found with his throat slashed in an underpass at Greenford Roundabout on Mothering Sundayby a passer-by.

On Sunday, seven days after he was killed, friends and familygathered to reflect on the dad's life in the place he died.

Police conducting a murder investigation were also there to appeal for witnesses, handing out leaflets and speaking to passers-by.

His brother, Cleave Newtion, 55, who lives off Fulham Palace Road, Fulham, was at the event.

He said: "His friends were singing, praying and refecting deeply.

"There was a sharing of memories and people spoke who had known him over the years."

Police said Mr Newtion had no links to crime and there was no apparent motive for the killing.

The singer had been performing for free at a 60th birthday party in the scout hut, Rockware Avenue, Greenford, the night before he died.

He left the event at 7.45am and walked to the underpass, where his killer struck.

Police say the murderer may have been injured in a struggle. A weapon was later found at the scene.

A post-mortem gave the cause of death as a severe cut to the neck.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was near the Greenford Roundabout between 7.55am and 8.50am and saw or heard anything suspicious, or saw anyone with an injury in the area.

They also want to know about anyone who came home on Mothering Sunday with unexplained injuries or acting unusually.

Detectives also want to speak to anyone who saw Mr Newtion leave the party in Rockware Avenue.

Known as Scoobie Santino, Mr Newtion had a hit single, Money Honey, in the 90s, with artist Sweetie Irie, which reached number one in the reggae charts.

Det Insp Lee Presland, of the homicide and serious crime command, said: "Ian was a lovely, gentle man who was very popular with a huge circle of friends and fans.

"When confronted by his assailant or assailants, he would not have put up a fight and that is what makes his death even more tragic.

"He was killed needlessly and it is important we catch those responsible."
