Around 150 people turned up to join in a community clean-up and family fun day in Feltham.

Sofas, mattresses and a fridge freezer as well as general garden and household litter were among the items cleared and loaded into three large vans, a skip and around 20 black bin bags, as part of the events on Thursday (May 28).

Organised by Southville Community Centre's Joint Action Group (JAG) - made up of Hounslow community safety, police, police cadets, fire brigade, Network Rail, community payback, councillors and residents - up to 300 yards of rubbish was scooped up along both sides of the railway line from the underpass at Padstow Walk.

Loaded vans were taken to Space Waye by Network rail, and a skip and the bin bags were taken away by Hounslow Council.

The morning clean-up was followed by fun with arts and crafts with the Feltham Arts team, circus skills with Poi Passion and Lisa's mini multi sports, plus pet owners had the chance to get their dog microchipped for free thanks to Battersea Dogs Home.

But it was a pygmy goat and a mini Vietnamese pig, belonging to neighbours, who stole the show along with volunteer Mike Foston who paraded the grounds in various guises from a giant teddy bear to a frog and elephant.

Among the stalls, West Area community safety officer Jo Drew gave out lots of safety freebies including personal alarms and handbag hooks, the Feltham Fire Brigade came in their engine which children and adults were able to sit in, a free burger was swapped for a bag of rubbish, and Asda donated free biscuits and crisps as well as gloves and litter pickers.

Noveen Phillips, Southville Community Centre manager, said: "The highlight was really at the end when participants realised what a huge amount of fly-tipping/rubbish had been removed and how much it had improved the image of Feltham for people not only living in the area but those passing through on trains."
