JUST one school in the borough was closed during last week's cold snap.
Staff at Hounslow Heath Junior School struggled to get to work, but the school was open again the following day.
The three extra gritters bought by Hounslow Council this year to add to its fleet were hard at work and a spokesman said there were no road closures because of the weather.
Between November 24 and December 5, 227 tonnes of grit were used in the borough by the council, leaving about 1,000 tonnes in reserve.
Meanwhile, 40 people were treated for slips and falls in just four days.
The ambulance service saw a 54 per cent rise in the number of falls in the borough between November 29 and December 2, compared with the same period the year before. This compares with an 18 per cent rise across London for the same period.
People with minor illnesses and injuries were asked to consider other options first, such as calling NHS Direct on 0845 46 47, or making their own way to a pharmacist or NHS walk-in centre.
