A COACH driver was assaulted by a gang of robbers near Western International Market in Southall.

The 38-year-old man was set upon by four men as he dropped off passengers in Hayes Road, on the border of Hounslow and Ealing, last Tuesday (August 20).

Police have appealed for witnesses to the attack, which left him needing hospital treatment.

The driver had stopped in Hayes Road at about 7pm, when four men approached him demanding money.

The men - three of whom were wearing turbans - then punched and kicked him, sending him flying into a nearby bush, where they searched him and stole cash from his pocket.

The victim managed to run across the road into the Murco petrol station but his attackers pulled him outside and continued to punch him before getting into a black Mercedes which sped off.

The driver was treated at hospital for minor injuries but has since been released.
The suspects are described as:

* an Asian man, roughly six feet, aged 35-40, wearing a white t-shirt, grey jogging bottoms and a turban

* an Asian man, roughly 5ft10, aged about 45, with a black beard and wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and a turba

* a white man of about 6ft6, aged about 30, with short black hair and wearing blue overalls

* an Asian man, about 5ft7, aged between 25 and 30, and wearing a turban

A police spokesman said officers are keeping an 'open mind' about the motive.

Any witnesses are asked to call DC Helen Larson on 020 8247 6650 or Crimestoppers, free and anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
