A SOCIAL club for people with dementia and their carers is among the early candidates for this year’s Let’s Do It awards.
The 50/50 Club organises activities from arts and crafts sessions to day trips for about 40 people with dementia across the borough.
The charity, founded 11 years ago, was nominated for the awards by its social events co-ordinator Kalina Patel.
She said: “We organise events for people living with the experience of dementia to help them stay active and give them the chance to socialise, which is very important. Members enjoy everything from mosaic and card-making to bowling and crazy golf. It also gives carers an important opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves.
“We’re looking to extend our social sessions and offer more days out, which is what the money would be used for should we win.”
The 50/50 Club works with the Alzheimer’s Society and is partly funded by members, relying on donations for the rest of its funding.
It runs three sessions a week – one each in Brentford, Feltham and Hounslow – all between 1.30pm and 4.30pm. They take place at the following locations:
Age UK Brentford, Albany Road, Brentford (Fridays).
Age UK Feltham, Feltham Lodge, Harlington Road West, Feltham (Thursdays).
Church of the Good Shepherd, Beavers Crescent, Hounslow West (Tuesdays).
The charity’s Christmas party, including old-style games, dancing and festive food, took place at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Tuesday.
