THE famous indigo clock at the top of Gillette Tower is working for the first time since the razor factory closed in 2003.
The neon display at the former Gillette Factory, on the Great West Road in Brentford, may be a sign that work is due to start on converting the Grade II listed building into a 505-bedroom hotel and 'business campus'.
The developer, The Bonnington Group, was given planning permission to regenerate the art deco building in 2007, although the project was postponed because of the recession.
In October last year, the Irish hotel and property company's application to have planning permission extended was approved.
The company is owned by the McGettigan family. They beat heavyweight bidders such as Tesco and Ikea to purchase the 11-acre site in 2005 for more than £35million. Nobody at The Bonnington Group was available for comment as the Chronicle went to press.
