Cliff Richard in a publicity shot for the 1963 film Summer Holiday

Move over Cliff Richard! Orchyd has got a new bus for its summer holiday too.

The Ruislip charity that works with special-needs children and arranges a 10-day break each year took delivery of the shiny new vehicle on Sunday, July 27.

Following a blessing by Father Nicholas Wheeler of St Mary’s Church in The Fairway, Ruislip, the mini-bus, complete with Orchyd livery, wheelchair lift and removable seats to create more space, is ready for the 11 boys and nine girls who will make up the holiday party this year.

As usual, they will be camping for a weekend – on August 9-10 – in Mad Bess Wood, between Ruislip and Harefield, as part of the holiday, with the facilities provided by the Ruislip, Eastcote and Northwood Scout District.

The mini-bus will be run in partnership with Hillingdon Community Transport, who will maintain and service it, and ORCHYD always have first call on it.

Funding came from gifts and through dozens of fund-raising activities held over several years.
