A father-of-two who is cycling 100 miles in memory of a teenage cancer victim roped in his folk-singing brother to help him reach his target.

Dave Young, of Castle Road, Isleworth, is taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 next Sunday (August 10) in aid of Children with Cancer.

The 50-year-old chose to support the charity after Ben Parkhouse, his boss's 14-year-old son, was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Ben sadly lost his battle with the disease in June but Dave, who works as a quantity surveyor for Network Rail, decided to go ahead with the challenge in his memory.

Mr Young persuaded his brother Chris Ronald, who emigrated to Canada in 2002 but was back in the UK touring his new album Timeline, to perform a charity gig on Monday (July 28) at the Euro Balti restaurant in Twickenham Road, Isleworth.

The sell-out gig raised £470, taking him sailing past his £2,250 target to £2,785, though he still hopes to raise more.

Mr Young said: "Compared to the fight Ben had with his leukaemia and so sadly lost, my personal challenge to complete this 100 mile bike ride feels quite insignifcant.

"However, I am prepared to put myself through a level of pain in attempting to complete the ride in under 4hr30mins (excluding any mechanical mishaps)."
