A shopping parade in Chiswick will be closed to traffic for four days this week for water works.

Devonshire Road, which is home to a number of independent traders including the Michelin-starred La Trompette restaurant, closed today between Prince of Wales Terrace and Glebe Street.

Thames Water, which is connecting a new water supply for a property in the street, said the work was scheduled to be completed this Thursday.

A spokeswoman for the utility firm said the short-term closure had been agreed with the council and although it was difficult for businesses in the area Thames Water would not be offering compensation.

"We're sorry for the disruption while we connect a new water supply in the road. Our teams are aware of the impact to businesses and residents and will be doing their best to get the job finished as soon as possible," she added.

The traders getwestlondon spoke to said it was a quiet time of year and they had not noticed a significant impact today, though one retailer said he was concerned deliveries might be affected during the week.
