THE garden of a play centre for children with special needs has been spruced up thanks to members of Ealing Liberal Synagogue.

Members and friends donated 70 plants, to celebrate the synagogue’s 70th anniversary, to the Log Cabin in Northfield Avenue, West Ealing, which it has named as its chosen charity for the past three years.

Alex Broman, who is on the synagogue council, said: “Ealing Liberal Synagogue (ELS) has done a charity drive every year around the time of the high days and holy days (Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah), and we have always included one local charity in the selection.

“We chose the Log Cabin as it’s a well known and wonderful local establishment which was energetically fundraising in order to expand. Also, one of our member’s children attended there for many years and benefitted from the excellent facilities and staff.

“When, last year, the ELS council was discussing events for its 70th anniversary taking place this summer, we thought it would be fitting, among other things, to give something additional to the Log Cabin.

“Someone on council suggested 70 plants for our 70 years and since we knew that the Log Cabin had greatly expanded its gardens, we offered this as one idea.”

Viv Dymock, fundraising manager at the children’s centre, said: “The Log Cabin was Ealing Liberal Synagogue’s chosen charity from 2010-2012.

They donated a total of £2,512, which helped to fund two holiday play schemes for the 250 children and young people with disabilities
who come to the Log Cabin all
year round, and also paid for some games and equipment for the games room.

“Members of the synagogue were very generous with their time and money, and we are touched and delighted that they wanted to continue their association with the Log Cabin.

“The bed already looks wonderful, thanks to some hard work from their gardeners, and will look even more so as it flourishes over time, giving enormous pleasure to the Log Cabin’s children and young people with disabilities and additional needs, who are keen to water it each day.”
