Children cheered as balloons were let off into the sky to mark the opening of their new school after a major expansion programme.

Pupils at Harlyn Primary School celebrated the completion of the redevelopement of their school in Tolcarne Drive, Northwood Hills, by welcoming the Mayor of Hillingdon to cut a ceremonial ribbon.

As councillor Catherine Dann officially opened the school’s new buildings, youngsters let go of balloons in the school colours of yellow and blue.

The whole school gathered outside the new main entrance with invited guests to celebrate with singing and speeches.

The major expansion and refurbishment programme made up part of Hillingdon Council’s borough wide plan to meet the high demand for new school places and to tackle classroom overcrowding.

The council’s £150million programme includes the expansion of primary schools across the borough and the building of three brand new schools in Uxbridge, Hayes and West Drayton.
