AS REPORTED in the Gazette, beautiful flower beds were created in Sipson by residents and anti-runway campaigners on bank holiday Monday.

However, most newspapers and TV coverage failed to mention that flower beds using the Chelsea Flower Show plants were also created in the threatened villages of Harmondsworth and Harlington.

The sites are: at the village sign on Hatch Lane; the junction of Harmondsworth Lane and Holloway Lane; Harlington Village Green; and a small section on the flower beds outside shops on Harlington High Street.

These have been planted with the help of campaigners from groups such as Greenpeace, Plane Stupid and Guerilla Gardening, but are being maintained exclusively by local volunteers.

It's a small, if time consuming, gesture to show how much we care for this area. By the way, if you see any of these plants wilting in the heat this summer, feel free to offer them a drink!)
