Michael Sobell Hospice is calling on people to volunteer to get arrested and "locked up" at Ruislip Police Station as part of their Jail and Bail fundraising event.

"Prisoners" will be asked to raise £1,000 before the day, or spend time in a police cell with a mobile phone and a list of contacts to call until the full amount of bail is raised.

They will be arrested by the local police at Michael Sobell Hospice (MSH) in Northwood and taken in a police van to Ruislip Police Station.

Once they have raised £1,000 they will be released and sent back to the hospice.

David Durn, solicitor from David Durn & Co in Ruislip has already signed up.

“We have all been faced with the horrible illness of cancer which indiscriminately affects so many," he said.

"I have lost close family and friends to various types of cancer and most have been fortunate to receive excellent care.

"Whatever the outcome those I know who have been lucky enough to get to use the resource of Michael Sobell together with their families couldn’t be more grateful to the centre and its staff.

"As a solicitor, it will be a novelty to be in the cells, rather than visiting someone there and it is an honour and pleasure to fund raise on their behalf."

Rachel Evans, a retired partner of Barnett Waddingham LLP in Amersham is also being locked up for MSH.

“I decided to participate in the Jail and Bail event because I wanted to do something to support the hospice, which looked after my friend and business partner at Barnett Waddingham LLP, Nilesh Dodhia,in 2008," she said.

"I've also heard that Ruislip police station is worth seeing - and who doesn't have a soft spot for a man in uniform.”

Trish Mule, Community Fundraiser at MSH said “this will be a challenging but very entertaining event, and we are hoping to raise at least £10,000. Each year we have to raise £1.5 million to maintain the current level of patient care at the hospice. This event will not only raise vital funds but also help to raise the profile of the hospice.”

The event is part of the national Hospice Care Week awareness campaign and will take place on Friday 3 October 2014.
