Brentford-based drugs giant GlaxoSmithKline has honoured five good causes for their work improving the health of local residents with generous £5,000 grants.

The Brentford Toy Library, Hounslow Pensioners Forum, Integrated Neurological Services, The Star Centre and Zimbabwe Women's Network-UK (pictured) scooped the prizes in the 2008 LOCAL Health Awards.

Over the past seven years 35 locally-based winners have been awarded £5,000 each in recognition of their work dealing with healthcare issues in the area.

One of the judges, Ann Keen, MP for Brentford and Isleworth and health minister, congratulated all the applicants.

"As always it was very difficult to pick out just five winners for the award but I feel the five we finally chose are more than worthy winners," she said. "The money that GlaxoSmithKline has donated will hopefully go a long way in progressing the work of the chosen organisations."
