A TROUGH outside Bedfont library has been given a new lease of life thanks to the handywork of charity members.

Resident Janice Denslow, Bedfont councillor Liz Mammatt also trustee of the charity Elizabeth Jane Jones, and Alex Beumer the chairman, decided to re-plant the bed of flowers on the trough.

It has been stood there since the early part of the 20th century but was neglected for around eight years, until recently, as the charity board agreed to maintain the structure.

Previously it had been looked after by the Bedfont Independents, and led by former councillor Peter Hills until he moved away. This team will now ensure it is preserved for years to come and remains a permanent fixture in the community.

Mr Beumer said: "I suggested to have the charity take on the planting and attend to its upkeep. Trustees of the charity approved of this and now it stands fully planted with a rich variety of flowers and a wonderful asset to the community of Bedfont."
