A principal honoured with a CBE will lead Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College this year.

Dr Elaine McMahon has started the year as interim principal and chief executive at the college following the departure of Paula Whittle who retired at the end of last year.

Ms McMahon has more than 30 years experience in further and higher education in the UK and USA and was awarded a CBE in 2009 for services to local and national education.

The former Harlow College and Hull College principal has also represented education at the Confederation of British Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and is former chairwoman of the 157 Group, a consortium of 30 the UK’s largest FE colleges.

Ms McMahon said: “I am thrilled to be joining such an innovative and professional College at this critical juncture. The further education landscape is rapidly changing and there are challenging times ahead, but our college continues to meet student and employer needs with year on year improved success rates and progression into employment.”

Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College has campuses in Acton, Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall offering A-levels and vocational courses in cooking, music and sport.
