ABOUT 200 children and adults visited Santa in Greenford at the weekend for the first time in two years.

And the Winter Wonderland, in Ravenor Farm, Ravenor Park, was so popular organisers have decided to extend its run until tomorrow (Saturday).

Visitors to the farm, off Oldfield Lane South, were treated to a range of activities, including working Meccano models of Babbage's Difference Engine (the first computer) and a nautical clock, live music, a model funfair, face-painting and the chance to meet Father Christmas in his grotto.

The Winter Wonderland was run by the recently formed Greenford Community Carnival Association (GCCA) at the site of a former grotto, which ran for 11 years until 2008.

GCCA chairman Jim Wong said the group was not trying to replicate the former attraction, which he said was

arguably the best grotto in west London, but to provide festive fun for children.

He said: "The weekend was fantastic. People were really pleased and the children came out of the grotto really happy.

"The word got round and those who had missed it were asking if we could run it again so, by popular demand, we're going to extend it to Saturday."

The group hopes to take over Greenford Carnival and has so far raised about £500 to help further these plans.

Admission for children is £3, which includes a gift, and £1 for adults. Opening hours are from 11am to 4pm.
