BUDGET accommodation chain Travelodge is offering Harrow residents the chance to win a cash bonanza by suggesting locations for three new hotels in the borough.

The company has earmarked Stanmore, central Harrow and Pinner as target areas and is relying on readers to nominate particular sites for potential development.

If the firm does end up opening a hotel at an address suggested by a contributor, that person will win £500 for each bedroom in the property – and with a typical Travelodge hotel housing 100 rooms, the payout could be as large as £50,000.

Tony O’Brien, UK property director for Travelodge, said: "We have identified three locations in Harrow that could sustain hotels due to the excellent transport links and superb local amenities.

"The challenge now is to find specific sites that we can build a hotel on.

£No-one knows Harrow like the people who live there so we are offering them a financial bounty to help us find the right site.

"With up to £150,000 available upon the construction of any hotel we hope people will really put their thinking caps on and help us get the sites we need."

Mr O'Brien said locations need to be near populated areas, businesses, or retail centres, universities, hospitals, or be ideal for tourists, and must lie within five minutes of a mainline rail or Tube station.

The plot has to be large enough to accommodate a sizeable hotel, of course, and may either require the construction of a new building or the conversion of existing premises.

Nor is the presence of a competitor's hotel a barrier either, Mr O'Brien added.
