A father-of-two lost his cool when housing chiefs told him he would be without heating for three weeks because their engineers were too busy.

George Andraos, of Midsummer Avenue, Hounslow, is furious staff at Hounslow Homes were prepared to leave his family shivering in the cold for so long.

The 36-year-old IT consultant first reported the problem to the housing association, which charges him more than £100 a month for hot water and heating, on October 28.

An engineer arrived two days later, only to misdiagnose the problem as a faulty boiler.

A second workman said the whole system needed to be flushed out and, claims Mr Andraos, told him someone would be round to do this the following day.

But, after waiting at home all day, he called up only to be told the earliest an appointment could be made was for November 17 - nearly three weeks after the problem was first reported.

"I've never seen worse service than this in my life," said Mr Andraos. "I've had to spend a huge amount on electric heaters to keep my wife and two young daughters warm. How many other families are being made to suffer like this?"

To make matters worse, the heating mysteriously started working last Thursday but the family had to put up with tropical temperatures because an engineer had removed the controls for the thermostat.

Hounslow Homes did not comment.
