TRAFFIC was disrupted for more than 48 hours after a water pipe burst on London Road in Stanmore.

The incident happened just after 4.30am on Tuesday morning and road closures were planned to continue until Thursday morning.

Drivers were stuck in long delays on Tuesday and there was still wide-spread traffic disruption the following day.

Police were assisting with the road closures, which were in place from early on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for Veolia said: “A new section of 300mm main was successfully installed yesterday and service resumed as normal.

“However, traffic management will be needed until noon on Thursday while damage to the road is being repaired.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank our customers for their patience.”
