AN ESTATE agent is furious after thieves broke in to her office and stole her British Empire Medal just seven months after receiving it.
Julia Quilliam, who owns Quilliam Property Service, in Brentford High Street, turned up to work on Monday morning to find the shop’s door frame smashed.
The estate agent and her staff timidly entered the shop to find thieves had ripped their safe off the wall and had also rifled through drawers and taken iPads, cameras and smartphones.
However, it was Julia’s British Empire Medal being snatched which hurt the most.
She said: “I just can’t believe it, why would they want to break into an estate agent’s? It’s not like we have that much here. Luckily we don’t keep cash on the premises, but we had to get a whole new door frame.
“My medal isn’t valuable to anybody else but me, it’s just made of base metal but it has my name on and I was really pleased to get it in January, when I was awarded it as part of the New Year honours for my services to the community.
“When I got it they told me to make sure people didn’t touch it too much as it would rub away and now those thieves are going to have their filthy hands all over it. I kept it in the office because people kept on asking if they could see it, but now all I’m left with is a box.”
The shop was broken into on Sunday night and despite the alarm going off the burglars were not interrupted. They fled the scene before police arrived and no arrests have been made.
