Even the most foolhardy of burglars wouldn't usually break into a police station but that's what happened today.

Strictly speaking the old Brentford police station in Half Acre closed last September but the building is still owned by the Met Police, who are in the process of selling the site.

Officers were called to their former stomping ground this afternoon to reports of a break-in.

Area inspector Steve Edwards said the crooks appeared to have stolen some internal fixtures and fittings from the premises.

He added that two people were arrested close to the scene that afternoon but said no one had yet been charged in connection with the burglary.

Brentford police station was one of a number of stations across London to close last September as part of cost-cutting measures. It was replaced with a police 'contact point' at Cornish House, in Green Dragon Lane, Brentford.

getwestlondon reported last month how the Met Police had spent £25,000 on the building since its closure, including business rates and the cost of security works.
