BUILDERS unearthed the remains of a World War Two air raid shelter at Hobbayne Primary School in Hanwell.

The shelter, which measures 18m in length and 12m in width, lies under the school field and was uncovered while expansion works were being carried out at the site.

Headteacher Jeffrey Brown said: “We arranged a special viewing for children on the Friday before half-term through a special viewing window in the hoardings. It definitely fascinated them.”

He added that there would have been room for more than 300 children at the shelter, which also included a toilet. The structure was filled in by builders this week while work continues.
