A builder has been fined for dumping rubbish out the back of his van.

Laszlo Nagyvardi of Clayton Road, Hayes, was caught by a CCTV camera twice in August last year fly-tipping at the rear of Alexandra Avenue in South Harrow, magistrates were told.

The first time, the 52-year-old dumped black bags, boxes and a suitcase and the second time he threw computer monitor cases away.

Nagyvardi was traced to his home by Harrow Council’s environmental compliance officers, who had found evidence of where he lived among the items.

When interviewed, he admitted dumping the rubbish and claimed he did not know he could take it to a recycling centre.

He said he had been helping a relative who had just moved house to Eastcote Lane to clear the items from the property’s garage.

Self-employed builder Nagyvardi was charged with two counts of fly-tipping and one of failing to produce a licence to transport controlled waste.

He admitted the offences at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 6. He was fined £300 and ordered to pay £400 towards prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Commenting after the hearing, the council’s environmental services manager, Richard Le-Brun, said: “This case illustrates two things – first, the value of CCTV in keeping our streets clean, and the second that we can and will track down people who think they can dump rubbish with impunity.

“Mr Nagyvardi claimed he did not know he could take these items to the waste site and dispose of them properly. He certainly knows that now.”
