BRUNEL University students descended on the Twickenham offices of Vince Cable MP on Friday protesting against the planned increase in tuition fees.

Led by Priya Pallan, president of the Union of Brunel Students (UBS), 20 from the university in Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, stood outside the business secretary's constituency offices chanting: 'Shame on you for turning blue'.

Office staff were forced to call the police to ensure Dr Cable was able to leave his office safely.

Protesters briefly formed a ring around his car before police intervened. The gathering then dispersed peacefully without any arrests.

Sam Middlewood, 23, the UBS vice-president for academic representation, said: "As a student, a representative of students and a member of the voting public I feel extremely betrayed by the Liberal Democrat party. They tricked students into voting for them on their manifesto pledge [not to raise them]."
