POLICE are urging witnesses to come forward after a 42-year-old was allegedly sexually assaulted in broad daylight this week.

The incident is said to have happened in the walkway that runs between the Royal Oak Pub and St George's Centre in Harrow just before 2pm on Monday.

The area, which is used by thousands of shoppers each day, was cordoned off by officers as forensic teams searched for DNA and the site was reopened late on Monday evening.

The Metropolitan police's Sapphire Unit are now investigating the allegation of sexual assault by penetration.

It is the second incident of sexual assault in the past month after a woman in her 30s was raped in Headstone Road at the beginning of June but the two are not being connected.

No arrests had been made in connection with either attack at the time of going to press and enquiries are still ongoing.
