With reference to your front page story of February 11[Bridge work chaos, Uxbridge Gazette], I was surprised to note that it did not include any comment from somebody who actually lives on the road in question.

Personally, I am looking forward to a nice peaceful few months during which Cowley Mill Road road ceases to be an unofficial bypass for traffic trying to avoid Mahjacks Roundabout etc.

Much of the traffic which currently uses the road and crosses Swan Bridge does so illegally, being over-weight, or against council policy, Cowley Mill Road being a local distributor road and not a through route.

In the days before the demise of the Uxbridge Moor Residents' Association, much time and effort was expended trying to persuade the council to enforce both the weight limit and its own policies for the maintenance of road hierarchy (eg. UDP Pt1.34, policy AM6, or whatever its equivalent in the new Local Development Framework might be: "The local authority will take appropriate measures to discourage the use of local distributor roads by through traffic," blah blah blah), all to no avail of course.
