Brent's annual firework display in Roundwood park has been cancelled following severe weather warnings.
The popular event - attended by thousands of people every year - was due to take place on Wednesday evening.
But weather experts have warned that predicted northerly winds could blow the powerful fireworks off course and into the crowd.
A council spokesman said: "We have no option but to cancel because changing the layout at Roundwood would jeopardise safety, there are no other suitable parks in Brent to move it to and it would cost to much to reschedule to another date.
"We are alerting people now, rather than waiting to see which way the wind blows on the day, to allow people time to make alternative arrangements.
"Brent would like to say sorry to the thousands of people who were looking forward to attending this popular event, but hope they understand that the safety of spectators has to be our most important consideration."
